A message from our 2020 President, Tracy Van Nguyen, DDS
I hope that everyone had a great year in 2019 and is preparing for another great year in 2020. I am so proud to say that 2019 has been a very successful year for us as we were able to accomplish many things. For this upcoming year, we would like to continue working towards our goal of serving our members and our communities. I am excited to see what 2020 has in store for us, and even more excited to see what accomplishments we will make.
Going into 2020, we will continue our scholarship program, provide informative CE courses to our members, and organize the annual Spring Gala event and Summer picnic activity for members and their families to socialize and get to know each other. In addition, NCAVAD will commit to do more charity work and expand our relationship with other dental organizations.
Last year, NCAVAD Dental Health Event proved to be very successful in serving our community. Our goal is to improve the event to make it even better this time around.
We have many expectations to meet this year, and I believe that we have the capability to fulfill them. The involvement of every member of our organization is essential to our operations, and I hope that we can continue to grow. As we further develop as individuals, we will strengthen the foundations of this organization and I hope that this will allow us to better serve the communities we are involved with.
When I was younger, I would always like to help those around me, make people feel happy, and try my best to live a meaningful life. It is a great honor to be involved with the local community, especially North California Association of Vietnamese American Dentists, to give back to society in general. To be a dentist, I have a privilege to do things I love and to work in a profession that can help others. Being a leader has highlighted my strengths and weaknesses to myself, and that has humbled me to realize that there is always room for growth. By listening to those who we help and providing them our best care, I hope that we can learn new things about not only them but also ourselves.
Thank you all for your dedicated support and participation. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to make 2020 another great year.
A message from our Immediate Past President, Hoang Yen Phan, DDS
I would like to take this opportunity to quickly report our 2019 activities and accomplishments.
We continued our many wonderful activities like quarterly CE, scholarships for undergraduate students, summer picnics and volunteering events. We had our first Dental Health Fair on October 6, 2019. It was a very lively event with a large number of members, families and friends’ participation including many junior volunteers. We provided 6 lectures from 6 different specialties. We had posters educating attendees on different dental health topics. We screened patients, applied Silver Diamine Flouride to prevent caries progression on those who needed it. We delivered 5 same day dentures and 2 relines. Many of our volunteers are here today. Thank you very much. Together, we can make a difference in our community.
Another noteworthy change is our more updated website. If you have not checked it out lately, please go to www.ncavad.org and check it out. All our activities and events are listed on there. You can sign up for CE, pay for membership, for CE and even donate to support our activities or scholarships. This event’s photos and videos will soon be uploaded there too. So check it out in a few weeks. We hope every dentist here today will join our membership. When we are strong, we can achieve great things together.
Now my term is over. I would like to thank the Board of Directors and Board of Advisors and all of you out there for your support in the last year. We have many wonderful individuals who not only donated their time but also their talents. We treasure your goal to keep NCAVAD strong. In turn, NCAVAD is able to continue to support our members and our community. Thank you all.
